CANINE HYDROTHERAPY TERMS Hip Dysplasia - An abnormal development of the hip joint. Elbow Dysplasia - An abnormal development of the elbow joint. Cruciate Ligament - Cruciate ligaments crisscross within the knee joint and serve an anchoring function. Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease - Is a disorder of the hip joint. Patellar Luxation (sub-luxation of patella) - The condition when the kneecap slips out of its usual resting place and lodges on the inside of the knee. Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) - Is the disorder in which there is degeneration of joint cartilage and formation of new bone at the joint surface. Intervertebral Disk Disease - Everyone has heard of a slipped disk, but some may be surprised to learn that this is a common problem in the dog. Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) - Is a surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament. Excision Arthroplasty or Femoral Head Ostectompy - Is a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur. Arthritis - Is a common condition in dogs characterized by progressive deterioration of articular cartilage in the joints of the limbs. Spondylosis - Is a degenerative arthritis, osteoarthritis, of the spinal vertebra and related tissue. C.D.R.M - A degenerative disease of the spinal cord which causes hind limb problems in German Shepherds. |
